Going for the Gold: First BRDG Park Building Wins Top Environmental Honors

Science lab buildings can use significantly more energy than an office building of comparable size. Even so, BRDG Park made sustainability and good stewardship top priorities when designing and building the research park's first building.

Now the results are in: Building I at BRDG Park has become one of the only laboratory facilities available for lease to emerging plant and life science companies nationwide to earn a coveted Gold LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

"We are thrilled to set an environmental leadership standard for research park facilities available to emerging plant and life science companies," said Sam Fiorello, president of BRDG Park.

Missouri Governor Picks BRDG Park as Site to Announce Major Science Initiative

"This is a springboard out of these challenging times...[to] make the state an entrepreneurial hub...[and] re-foster the spirit of entrepreneurship"

With these words at BRDG Park in December, Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon announced his support for the Missouri Science and Innovation Reinvestment Act (MOSIRA), proposed legislation to create a dedicated state funding stream to attract and retain high-tech scientific and research jobs in Missouri.

Why did he pick BRDG Park? Because it demonstrates and symbolizes the kind of growth opportunity and job possibilities that can "give us a science and business-based advantage in creating the jobs of the future."

Before his news conference, the Governor toured BRDG Park, visiting Divergence and Monsanto labs, as well as meeting with students at the on-site workforce development and training program run by St. Louis Community College now based at BRDG Park.
